Go Cat Feather Toys started with a unique wedding gift in 1981 from Richard to Harriet — a pedigreed Abyssinian named Baby Ruth. Ruth’s firstborn, Almond Joy, introduced Harriet to the world of cat shows. There were very few interactive cat toys on the market at this time, so in the mid-80s, Harriet began making feathers on a stick to entertain her own cats, as well as those of friends at local cat shows. Vendors and local pet store owners started asking to buy the toys, and the business grew. Da Bird caught the attention of a local entrepreneur at a cat show. He created packaging and began marketing the product on a national level. To date, over two million Da Bird cat toys and bird refills have been sold. The products are still handmade in the U.S. by more than 40 crafters who work to maintain the quality of the original toys.
