The Bakersfield SPCA needs a dynamic and outgoing shelter veterinarian dedicated to saving lives to join us full-time or even on a relief basis. This individual would provide leadership and direction for the medical and surgical care of animals in the shelter. He or she would be responsible for the day-to-day health of animals in the shelter. The veterinarian would triage and stabilize ill and injured animals (including on-call as needed), diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions, anesthetize animals as needed, and perform surgery. He or she would work with staff to create community programs to reduce shelter intake and euthanasia. Applicants must have a great attitude towards saving lives, as well as be able to recognize and document animal cruelty, including offering expert witness testimony.
